Two candidates -- Bobby Valentine and Gene Lamont -- remain in the running to be the next manager of the Boston Red Sox, and a new manager will be named Tuesday, the New York Post reported. Lamont told ESPNBoston.com on Monday morning that he had not been offered the job, and Valentine said in a text message Sunday night that he hadn't been contacted by the Red Sox either.

Valentine was in Japan at a charity event on Monday, according to The New York Times. Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington has said he hopes to name a manager by next Monday, which is when the winter meetings begin in Dallas.

Torey Lovullo, who also interviewed for the manager's job, has been told he's out of the running. Valentine is currently serving as an analyst on ESPN's “Sunday Night Baseball,” and Lamont has spent the last six seasons as the Detroit Tigers' third-base coach.
