Florida Atlantic’s baseball players, coaches and staff have shaved their heads to support the cancer-stricken brother of a teammate. Pitcher Jake Meiers’ brother, Cody, was recently diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. FAU coach John McCormack suggested the head-shaving idea, and his players did not hesitate.

“It definitely means a lot to my brother,” Jake Meiers said. “When he first walked in he got a huge smile and it hasn’t left. ... It’s awesome.”Ewing’s Sarcoma is the same form of cancer Mark Herzlich battled when he was playing linebacker at Boston College, forcing him out for a year. Herzlich returned for his senior season and signed this year as a free agent with the New York Giants.
